Vitalik Buterin believes decentralized applications can do more than just disrupt finance — they can help protect the internet itself. Responding to a major outage at Cloudflare, Buterin argued that DApps should be built so users don’t even notice when centralized service providers fail.

According to him, Ethereum’s long-term mission is to function as a “world computer” — infrastructure that keeps running regardless of corporate outages, hacks, or political shifts. For users, that means applications that resist censorship, fraud, and third-party interference while remaining usable at scale.
