Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested Mildred Kache, also known as Sabreena Ayesha, at a Kilimani apartment in Nairobi following an investigation into a fake gold deal that drained 431,380 USDT from an American investor. According to the DCI, Kache and her alleged accomplice Ibrahim Yusuf Mohamed told the investor they could supply 400 kilograms of gold bars. The victim flew to Nairobi to sign an agreement and wired payment into bank accounts controlled by the group. Once the funds landed, the alleged dealers went silent, no gold was ever shipped, and the investor reported the loss to authorities. Forensic leads traced investigators to the Kilimani property where Kache was arrested, while Mohamed fled before officers arrived, abandoning a black Mercedes-Benz E50 that is now held as evidence.

One detail that drew attention after the DCI published its account was the glaring price discrepancy in the deal itself. At current market prices, 400 kilograms of gold would be worth approximately $54 million, making the 431,380 USDT payment a fraction of what that quantity of gold would actually cost. Several observers pointed out the mismatch under the DCI's post, noting it should have raised immediate red flags. Kache remains in custody at the DCI's Nairobi Regional Headquarters pending arraignment, and investigators say they are actively pursuing Mohamed and working to trace the stolen funds. Whether any of the USDT can be frozen on-chain will likely determine how much of the loss the victim is ultimately able to recover.
