AI coding startup Cognition has raised $1 billion at a $26 billion valuation, cementing its place as one of the most valuable companies in the AI software space. The company’s flagship product, Devin, has become one of the most widely recognized AI coding agents, capable of handling software tasks from start to finish.

Despite growing concerns that AI could replace developers, Cognition CEO Scott Wu says that was never the goal. Instead, he describes Devin as a tool designed to help programmers build more, automate repetitive work, and spend more time on creative problem-solving rather than routine maintenance tasks.
