Australia Introduces Major Gambling Ad Restrictions
-

Anthony Albanese has announced sweeping restrictions on gambling advertising across TV, radio, online platforms, and sporting venues. Starting January 2027, gambling ads will be banned during live sports broadcasts between 6 am and 8:30 pm, with additional limits placed on advertising outside of live events.
The reforms also prohibit celebrities and athletes from appearing in gambling promotions and restrict online ads to verified adult users with opt-out options. These measures come as Australia faces the highest per-capita gambling losses globally, with billions lost annually across the population.
