Coinbase-backed Ethereum layer-2 network Base has introduced a new tool called Base MCP that connects blockchain accounts directly to AI agents like ChatGPT and Claude. The system allows users to manage crypto operations through simple chat prompts, including sending funds, swapping tokens, checking balances, reviewing transaction history, and interacting with DeFi apps across the Base ecosystem.

The platform currently supports integrations with protocols including Uniswap, Morpho, Moonwell, Aerodrome, Avantis, and Virtuals. When an AI agent suggests a transaction, users still need to manually approve it through their Base wallet, ensuring the AI never directly controls private keys or wallet access.

The launch highlights the growing push toward “agentic payments,” where AI systems use crypto for autonomous transactions and micro-payments. Coinbase believes this could eventually create an entirely new machine-driven digital economy powered by blockchain infrastructure and stablecoin-based payments.
