AWS Bets AI Agents Will Reshape the Internet by 2027

Amazon believes the next generation of internet traffic won't come from humans—it will come from AI agents. To prepare for that shift, AWS has launched an upgraded OpenSearch Serverless platform that automatically adjusts to the unpredictable bursts of activity generated by autonomous AI systems.

The move comes as machine-generated traffic continues to rise across the web. Cloudflare recently estimated that bots account for roughly 31% of internet traffic, with AI crawlers, assistants, and automated tools making up a growing share of those requests. Some industry experts even predict non-human traffic could surpass human traffic as early as 2027.

As companies increasingly deploy AI agents for research, customer service, automation, and business operations, cloud infrastructure providers are racing to redesign their platforms.
